How to use the OVI Charts

How to use the OVI Charts

Here we'll be covering how you can get started with using and interacting with the OVI Charts.

We've put together a short video covering the main Chart functions that you can follow along with, which covers the majority of the features included in this article. We highly recommend following along with the video as you get accustomed to navigating the Platform.

How to get to the OVI Charts

To get to the OVI Charts from your Platform Homepage, click on the Charts icon in the left-hand sidebar directly under the 'Home' icon.

How do I get started with the OVI Charts?

To get started, you'll need to add a stock to your Starter Folder by searching a ticker with the 'Add stock' bar and clicking when it appears. For example, try typing 'AAPL' into the 'Add stock' field and bringing up the Apple stock chart.

Above, we've typed the ticker into the search bar and it's given us a result.

What can I do in the OVI Charts area?

Now, you're ready to play around with the OVI Charts! Below are some of the main features within the Charts area and how you can interact with them:

  • Zoom
By clicking one of the 'Zoom' presets at the bottom of the chart, you'll be able to adjust your view to that time period. Example; click '7 mths' to change the chart to a 7 month view. You can also drag the green bar to view a custom date-range.

  • Time Period Controls
In the top-left you'll see icons that look similar to a DVD player. These enable you to easily and quickly step forwards or backwards on the stock chart.
From top to bottom (or left to right), these do the following:

    • ⏮ Step backwards by one day
    • ◀️ Jump backwards a time period
    • 📅 Load all historical data available for that stock
    • ▶️ Jump forwards a time period
    • ⏭ Step forwards by one day

  • Drawing Tools
By clicking the pencil icon, you'll be able to draw a straight line between two points onto your chart. If you make a mistake or otherwise want to remove a line, you can do this by clicking the eraser icon and selecting the line you want to delete.

  • The Crosshair
This is here to help you determine specific points on the chart, or simply to help you see where your cursor is. You can toggle this on or off by clicking the crosshair icon next to the eraser.

  • OVI, Volume and Implied Volatility
As you'll see in the video you can toggle these on or off at your own discretion. For now, we recommend leaving OVI and Volume on as these are key components in our Big Money Strategy, whilst Implied Volatility is especially useful for Options trading.

  • Moving Averages
You can activate and deactivate the moving averages at any time by clicking relevant MA button - i.e. click on the '20' button. These will appear as highlighted when active, so you'll always know which ones are showing.

  • Add Journal Entries and Notes
You can add Journal entries and notes directly from the chart with this icon.

  • See which Watchlists and Fast Filters the stock appears in
At a glance, you can not only see which of your personal Watchlists the stock appears in, but also which WiseTraders Watchlists and the Fast Filters!

If you'd like a more in-depth look at the Chart functions, you can find more information in the OVI Chart User Guide here.
