OVI Charts User Guide

OVI Charts User Guide

The OVI charts display important and useful information to help you easily identify high-quality (AAA) trade setups.

Launching the New OVI Charts

The new OVI charts are located within the Watchlist application. You’ll find the Watchlist app under the Platform area. There are two ways to launch the new OVI Charts:

  1. Via the Watchlist app from the Platform (Applicable to all members)

  • This is the most common method of launching the OVI chart

  •  Simply click on the the Watchlist icon in the vertical navigation bar on the left of the platform and select the OVI Chart tab.

  1. Via the TradeFinders

  • Click on the “Charts (New)” button under Step 3: Results of the TradeFinders to launch the new OVI charts

  • The “Charts (Old)” button launches the old version of the OVI Charts which contains only the OVI reading pertinent to the stock.

  • Note that the “Charts (New)” and  “Charts (Old)” button will not be displayed if the TradeFinder does not produce any search results.

  • We highly recommend using the new OVI charts under the Watchlist app because it displays the big money footprints in addition to the OVI reading.

How to Use the New OVI Charts

A) Stock Information

This is the top section of the OVI chart. It contains all the essential stock information such as the big money bias and big money footprints, earnings and so forth.

Clicking on the company logo or stock ticker/name will display the YahooFinance data for the company.

If you need help understanding the various icons, simply hover your mouse cursor over them to display the icon’s description.

The big money bias and big money footprints icons will only be highlighted if the stock has a bias or is exhibiting a big money footprint. This is determined by our proprietary algorithms.

Some stocks may display high OVI correlation (5 stars highlighted) while others may have no OVI correlation (0 stars highlighted). A higher OVI correlation (higher star) typically indicates that the stock has historically correlated well with its OVI reading. Please note that stocks that do not have an OVI correlation are not necessarily bad.

Remember, you want to look for the big money footprints within a flag/consolidation on the chart. These will trump over the OVI correlation.

B) Chart Controls

This is the section directly below the Stock Information. It allows you to adjust the OVI chart according to your personal preference.

Here are a few tips on how to best utilize this section:

I. Adjusting chart data:

  • The OVI Chart is set to display 7 months of data by default.

  • The “back a period” or “forward a period” button will move the chart backwards or forwards a quarter while still retaining the zoom selection (7 month by default)

  • The “backwards” or “forwards” button will move the chart backwards or forwards by a day

  • The “load all data” will load all the OVI information on the stock.

II. Drawing on the chart

  • Draw a line on the chart: Click the pen tool. Then click and drag on the chart to draw a line. Remember to click on the  pen tool again to “toggle off” this feature. Otherwise, you will end up drawing lines all over your chart.

  • Erase the drawn line: Click the eraser tool. Then click on the line you want to erase.

  • Drawing features that are “toggled on” will be highlighted in grey. Simply click on the tool again to toggle off these features

III. Toggling the crosshair

  • Click the crosshair tool to toggle on the crosshairs which can help you to easily focus on a specific candlestick or date. You will need to click on the crosshair tool again to toggle it off.

  • The crosshairs are toggled off by default.

IV. Viewing chart panels

  • There are three chart panels that you can view on the OVI Charts; OVI, Volume and Implied Volatility

  • These information are displayed at the bottom of the OVI chart

  • Click on the corresponding icon to toggle on and off the three panels of the OVI Charts.

V. Viewing key levels

VII. Watchlist buttons

  • The other buttons located beside the Add Journal button are related to the Watchlist app

  • You’ll find more information on these buttons under Locating Stock in Watchlist of the Watchlist User Guide

C) Price Chart

This is the section directly below the Chart Controls. The OVI charts display prices on a daily basis. When markets are open from 9am (ET) - 4pm (ET), a snapshot of the intraday prices will be displayed on the price chart. This snapshot will be updated on a 15-minute basis during regular trading hours.

Intraday prices are indicated by a icon located on the far right of the price chart (above the OVI section). Hover your mouse cursor over this icon to display more information on the intraday prices displayed. Note that this icon will not appear when markets are closed. We will work to provide live-streaming intraday prices on the chart in the long-run.

The price chart loads 1-year worth of OVI data by default. You’ll need to click on  “load all data” to load all the OVI information on the stock.

Hovering your mouse over a candlestick will display the Open, High, Low, Close prices for the day. These will be displayed beside the stock ticker located at the top of the price chart.
