Journal User Guide

Journal User Guide

You can record each of your individual trades on the WiseTraders platform through the Journal app.

Understanding the Journal App

There are three different journal types on the app:

I. Trade Plan

Trade plan entries allow you to document your trade management plan. This is essentially your Entry, Stop Loss, P1 and P2 (if any) levels.

You can create multiple “Trade Plan” entries on a particular stock within the same day.

Any trade plan created from the Watchlist app will be listed as a “Trade” entry under this app.

II. Note

This is a simple jotter note on any particular stock on any particular day. This is useful for quickly jotting down thoughts and strategy without the details of a Trade Plan.

You can create multiple “Note” entries on a particular stock within the same day.

Any notes created from the Watchlist app will be listed as a “Note” entry under this app.

III. Market Timing Note

This entry is specific to the S&P 500 or SPY. This allows you to record your market analysis for the day.

You can only make ONE “Market Timing Note” entry everyday.  This type of entry is only available under the Journal app.

You’ll find additional information on the app in the grey information button at the top right corner (located beside ).

Accessing the Journal App

There are two ways to access to access this app:

1) Via the left sidebar on the WiseTraders Platform
  • Click on the Journal icon in the sidebar

2) Via the Watchlist app
  • Click on the “Journal” tab in the Watchlist app

How to Use the Journal App

A) Create a journal entry

If you are a new user, you will see a “No journal entries” message upon launching the app.

To create a new entry, click the plus button at the top right corner of the app and select your preferred entry type.

I. Add Trade Plan

  • Select the “Trade Plan” option to record your entry, stop loss, P1 and P2 (if any)

  • Click on if you have any additional notes to add in their respective fields

  • Stock Ticker, Action, Entry Level, Initial Stop and P1 exit are required fields as these are essential for your trades

  • We recommend you fill in the Big Money Footprints section as well because this allows you to easily grade your past trades when you review your journal entries

  • The Market Timing section will be populated if you have previously created a market timing note for the day. Editing or adding details into this section will update an existing market timing note or create a new one

  • We recommend creating a market timing note for the day (Point III below) before adding any new trading plans

  • This will be categorized as a “Trade” journal type when you are filtering through your trades on the app

II. Add Note

    • Select the “Note” to record any thoughts or observations you have on a particular stock

    • This will be categorized as a “Note” journal type when you are filtering through your trades on the app

    III. Add Market Timing Note

    • Select the “Market Timing Note” to record your market analysis for the day

    • You can only make ONE market timing note everyday

    • Creating an entry here will populate the “Market Timing” section of the Trade Plan entry (Point I above) by default

    • This will be categorized as a “Market Timing” journal type when you are filtering through your trades on the app

    B) Filtering through Entries

If you have previously created entries using the journal app, you will see all your journal entries upon launching the app. Your entries will be sorted chronologically.

Use the “Filter” function to display only the entry types that you wish to view.

The “Watchlist” filter type filters for any watchlist notes created via our old watchlist app. This will mostly affect our long-time users.

If you are one of our long-time users, your old notes will fall under the “Watchlist” category. You can find your old notes by selecting this particular filter.

    C) Journal Views on a Desktop

You can view your journal in two ways: List view & Wall view. The app is set to “List” view by default and you can switch to “Wall” view by toggling the “List/Wall” view button located beside the button.

    I ) List View

This is generally our preferred “view type” on the application.

The List view displays a summary of your journal entries on the left panel and a breakdown of your journal information on the right panel. All entries are sorted by your most recent entry date.

On the left panel, click the 3 vertical dots beside each item in the list to create a new trade plan or note for that particular item.

On the right panel, click the 3 vertical dots on the right of each entry to edit or delete it.

Clicking on “Edit Entry” on a “Trade Plan” will also allow you to view any additional notes that you’ve written for the trade (e.g., big money footprints, comments about your entries etc).

This is currently the only way to access your additional trade notes.

You will need to manually delete each individual entry on the stock in order to remove all its entries from the journal app.

Mass deletion of your journal entries is currently unavailable at the moment.

    II) Wall View

Wall view displays all your journal information in one page. The ability to create a new note or trade plan for a particular item will not be available here.

Clicking on the 3 vertical dots on the right of each item will only allow you to edit or delete your entries.

    Future Improvements

Eventually new entries will be connected with our OVI charts and you’ll be able to view the entries directly from the chart. Also, in the future you will be able to share your trade plans with your peers or your mentor (if you have one), so that you can receive feedback on your technique.
