Get your IT in top shape for the Workshop

Get your IT in top shape for the Workshop

If you are attending a Workshop remotely on our own TV Channel, or by Livestream or GoToWebinar, please take a few minutes to get your IT into shape before the event, maybe the day before, or even earlier.

Support is extremely busy in the final lead up to the start time, so for the best possible experience please make sure that your IT is properly prepared.

If you are having issues viewing OVI charts or Tradefinders on an iPad, please see Specific iPad issues at the bottom of this page.

  1. Most mainstream Web Browsers on all operating systems and devices should give the best experience.

If you are already using one of those please try the following options  in the order given and stop when the issue is resolved.

Please ensure that cookies are allowed to be set by the web browser.

    Option 1: Re-boot

If you are using a laptop and routinely allow it to 'sleep', please perform a full power down re-boot.

Similarly, if you use a desktop and never turn it off, please perform a full power down re-boot.

Option 2: Update the Operating System

Using, as appropriate, the Windows/MAC/iOS/Linux Update function, check for updates to the operating system. If there are any, you will likely be prompted to re-boot.

Option 3: Update your Web Browser (instructions below)

The instructions are very similar on all web browsers and a Google search will reveal what is pertinent to your own preference.
Chrome and Firefox are quoted as examples.

    Chrome:

    1) Click on Customize and Control Google Chrome (which may appear as three vertical  dots at the top right of your browser).

    2) In the drop-down menu: Select Help > About Google Chrome.

          - This will check that your version is up to date, and install any outstanding updates.  Restarting Chrome will be required if updates are installed.

    Firefox:

    1) Access the Menu via the three horizontal lines at the top right of your browser.  (Or select from the menu bar - if shown)

    2) On the Menu select Help > About Firefox.
          - This will check that your version is up to date, and install any outstanding updates.  Restarting Firefox will be required if updates are installed.

Option 4: Clear your web browser cache (This will delete cookies and some 'remembered' information)

    Chrome:

    1) In the drop-down menu: Select More Tools, and then click Clear Browsing Data.

    2) At the top of the Clear browsing data window you will see “Obliterate the following items from.”

    3) In the drop-down box, select “the beginning of time”.

    4) Check the boxes next to Cookies and other site and plugin data, and Cached images and files.

    5) When checked, click Clear browsing data.

    6) Re-start Chrome.

    Firefox:

    1) In the menu, or having selected Tools from the Menu bar (if shown), select Options.

    2) In the new window that loads, select Privacy from the left side of the menu.

    3) In the middle of the page, see the section titled History.
          - In that section, there is a sentence: “You may want to clear your recent history, or remove individual cookies.”

    4) Click the “clear your recent history” link and a new dialog box will appear.

    5) In the Clear All History box, set the time range to clear to Everything.

    6) Ensure the boxes underneath Details ‘Cookies’ and Cache’ are selected.

    7) When checked, select the Clear Now button.

    8) Re-start Firefox.

Step 2 - and this is ONLY for users of Microsoft Windows, and has only been tested on Windows 10 and 11.

Create a txt file, and name it, for example, DISMSFC.txt and save it to your Desktop.
Open it, and copy/paste the exact following into it:

    @ECHO OFF
    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
    Sfc /scannow
    pause

    Save it.

Enter your preferred file name and 'Save as' your preferred file name.

Right click the txt file > Show more options > Rename
Then, rename the txt file to have a "bat" suffix, without the quote marks.  E.g. DISMSFC.bat

To run it, select it on your desktop, right click and select 'Run As Administrator'.
User Account Control will ask you if you want to run it.  Select 'Yes'.
This may take a while and it runs like this, and will report if it finds and fixes any errors:

Specific iPad issues
1) Most mainstream Web Browsers on all operating systems and devices should give the best experience.
  1.  If you are already using one or the other and have difficulty viewing charts, clearing the cache may help.
2) Another issue could be Apple legacy, if your iPad is a few years old.
  1. Apple discontinue iOS support for some older models at various stages, so older equipment will not auto-update to the latest.
  2. If you go to Settings > General > Software Update it should automatically check for iOS updates for you
    1. If it says "iOS xx.x.x Your software is up to date", you may have a problem if that is not the latest.
  3. You can find the latest iOS version number here

If you still have problems, please email support@wisetraders.com for further help.
